Chunky Fringe 2019

Information for exhibitors and panel hosts

(Updated 27-06-2019.)

General information

The room has been hired from 1pm to 7pm. Allowing for visitors arriving early, and the final panel overunning, you will have at least half an hour to set up and clear away.

You will be responsible for the security of your own equipment, though we will do our best to keep an eye on things if you need to leave them unattended for a few moments.

All mains-powered electrical equipment must have a current PAT certificate. If you don't have one, then we have booked a qualified electrician, from 1pm to 2pm, who can test your equipment as you arrive. Alternatively, bring a fully-charged laptop that can run on batteries alone, then we won't need to test it.

We have not tested the WiFi, so if you need an internet connection, then please bring your own phone or similar device with tethering.

Our delightful receptionist, Bill, will be around most of the time to assist with your general enquiries, minor incidents, and any annoucements that you wish to make using the PA system. Find him in the corner near the projection screen.

Food & Drink

Tea, coffee, water, and biscuits will be available at all times.

Sandwiches will be provided from 1pm to 2pm.

Pizza can be provided at 6pm, if requested in advance (by Friday the 19th July, please.)

We will provide you with half a 180cm by 75cm table, or a whole one if you need it, and one power socket. What goes on the table is up to you. Though we're expecting that this will mostly be about teletext and other forms pixel art, with a sprinkling of homebrew games, we'll consider anything that you're happy to share with the Digitiser crowd and which won't get you arrested.

We hope to feature abilities ranging from seasoned exhibitionists to nervous amateurs, so that experience and enthusiasm can collide in an explosion of new talent, misplaced self-confidence, and awkwardly trying to remember the names of people you've just met.

There will be one spare projector at the far end of the room. We may need to use this for the panels if the main projector fails, but otherwise, it will available for exhibitors to share between themselves.

Panel hosts

We will provide you with two microphones and a portable PA system, which will be set up near the projection screen, together with seats and tables for you. This will be ready for checks and practice runs by 2pm, one hour before the first panel begins.

We can provide you with a laptop to run a presentation and video clips on the projection screen, if you send us the files beforehand, so that we can check they run as expected. You may bring your own laptop, but please ensure that it has a VGA connection and a 3.5mm audio connection (via adapters is fine.)

The projector connection point is a few metres from the screen, so to avoid you having to work blind, or constantly twist around, we can provide somebody to move through your slides and video clips when you give them the nod. Please let us know if you need them.

We may record all of the panels, so please let us know if you or any of your panelists would rather not be recorded.
